THE GIDDINESS CONTINUES...

I went up to my local Ford dealer Saturday morning and now the in-house 'Micro-Soft SYNC' works.  Well..., sort of.  I can get it to work perfectly, but not in the way the technician said it would work.  Still, it's pretty cool.

Come to find out this 'Tang has an after-market exhaust system on it.  "No Dear, THAT'S they way they are supposed to sound.  It's NOT really all that loud."  Gear head buddy thinks it probably adds about 2 to 3 horsepower on the high end as it is one of the more expensive systems out there.  I don't know crap about this stuff but my insurance bud kept asking me the other day when we drove up north, "Are you TRYING to be Steve McQueen?"  It sure sounds like the Mustang in the film "BULLITT".

The only complaint I have with this new 'Tang is the factory headrests.  They are sloped too far forward and force my head down unnaturally, so I took 'em off.  The mechanic I always use up at the local Ford dealer didn't like that as he said I really should put them back on the seats.  I'm going over to my farmer friendly machine shop and see if we can 'straighten' the insert shafts without messing up the upholstery.  That way they wouldn't force my head down like they do now.  Only thing I've found so far that I don't like about this car.

I also added to my toys in that over the weekend I purchased a MacBook Air.  My DELL laptop is crashing on average about every 60 days or whenever I travel and I'm DONE with it.  So, I'm moving to the dark side and going to a Mac system (with a Windows auxillary operating system so I can access all my PC files) because my son has had a Mac Book Pro for over 6 years and that thing has YET to see the shop and he literally drags it everywhere and has everything stored on it.

Big trouble I'm having with this new system is the 'Migration' from this desktop to it.  It's been 'migrating' now for more than 14 hours and we're still not there, but the talley on 'received files' keeps growing.  I hope this is the way things are supposed to be?

More later when I get back to the office as I have a bunch of running around to do, including a visit to my farmer friendly machine shop...

All The Best,
Frank W. James

Why do I have this feeling that shortly the 'Stang will be in the Ditch because some Voice comes out of the Sync telling you "Your Speed is Excessive. The Police have been Notified", and you slam on the Brakes?

"I'm sorry Dave, I can't open the Pod Bay Doors."

Dumb question, maybe, but is there any chance that the headrests are in backwards?

5-10 HP with a new exhaust, and get a K&N air filter (oil filled), that is worth about 3HP. Re the migration, yeah it takes a while depending on how many individual files you have... Mine took over 8 hours.

Next comes turtleneck sweaters, shoulder holsters and a young Jackie Bisset look a like.

My wifes 70 blue Mustang had a V-8 and it was her baby. She had to approve of the person before she sold it. She'd like your ride Frank.

Les: You're assuming I can HEAR. Which my wife says I CAN'T...

Comrade: Acutally, I discovered you can put them in backwards and they more or less serve the same purpose. The height-locking notches are on only one side of the tubes, but at least they're in place and pointed well backward as opposed to forward.

The machinist couldn't help me as he said these tubes are harder than you know what and any attempt at bending them would only result in crushing the two thick walled tube. So, I turned the damn things around and stuck 'em back in. Looks strange but it will have to do...

Gerry: I'm too fat for turtlenecks, but I do have the shoulder holsters....:-)...

Old NFO: Yeah, a call to Apple revealed that it might take as long as 48 hours (!?!) or even longer to get everything loaded via WiFi.

Guess I'll have to wait...

A cable connection would probably be faster than using wifi. Which type of cable (connection) used would also affect speed. Could be a dramatic difference in speed with cable.

Funny to hear you switching to Apple. I have had Mac's for years. When I got a tablet PC to run FarmerGPS I very nearly tore my remaining hair out with frustration.
So I anxiously await you comments on the transition.
Also, I would like to hear your comments on the lightweight, DVD and cable free notebook.
As well as your happiness or frustration with things like iTunes and iPhoto.
I suggest trying out a shareware program called Graphic Converter from Lemkesoft for easy resizing of photos for the web.
And don't bother with Safari, download Firefox right away...
IMHO
With your potential endorsement I'm starting to wish I hadn't sold my three shares of Apple stock.

buddeshepard: I figure this thing can't be any worse than my Dell laptop.

However, I have discovered that the 'no-disc drive, no cable hook-up, WiFi only transmission of data' is beyond well s-l-o-w.

Presently I am at the '48 Hour' mark and nowhere close to being fully 'migrated'....????

Still I have hopes...or that a sure sign of senility or stupidity?...

Well Frank, welcome to the "almost" a perfect computer... It is the "almost" that will drive you insane with the Mac.
In the past Apple had a way to hook two computers together using firewire and perhaps USB (not sure on that) and then you could migrate your info quickly. I looked up the Macbook Air and see that they have done their best to make it hard to get information in or out except with a proprietary cable or Wifi.
You might be able to use an Ethernet cable but I don't understand modern non-AppleTalk networking so I can't help you there.
48 hours to migrate is kind of embarrassing to someone like myself who was a diehard apple advocate for years.
If it fails. I suggest putting all your photos and other data files on an external hard drive and figuring out how to connect that to the new computer. Perhaps buy that stupid thunderbolt cable or what ever it takes to get some connectivity.
I may sound a little annoyed but it is because my iBook is dying and I really don't know what to replace it with. I've been thinking about the Macbook Air but I think I will watch your blog for commentary...
Good luck!

Don't get annoyed and pull the plug! I tend to do that and it has not worked so well for me.
